24-year-old Rio Dell man killed in single vehicle rollover
EUREKA, CALIFORNIA (September 24, 2014) – According to an article by the Times-Standard, a 24-year-old Rio Dell man who was killed early Monday morning in a single vehicle rollover accident has been identified as Ryan Smith.
As stated in the article, Ryan Smith was a passenger in a 1991 Toyota pick-up driven by a 22-year-old man from Mad River.
As per the article, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle traveling southbound on Van Duzen Road just south of State Route 36, according to CHP.
The vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, went off the left embankment and rolled several times before landing about 100 feet below the roadway, writes the Times-Standard.
Smith was ejected from the vehicle and
died of blunt force trauma, according to the article.
A spokesman for California Highway Patrol Weaverville stated that officials are investigating if alcohol was a possible factor in the accident, which would then mean the driver would be facing felony charges.
